Research and development

Astrophysika National Centre of Laser Systems and Complexes (part of Shvabe Holding) performs research work and develops technologies in the sphere of various-purpose laser and optical complexes, systems and technologies, laser locators, high-energy lasers, high-precision laser aiming and targeting systems, adaptive optics, wavefront reversal non-linear optical systems, ladars and lidars, optical coatings, and a number of other areas.

By Executive Order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 797-R as of May 15, 2013, the organization’s status as a Russian state scientific center was confirmed.

One of the main scientific and technical results achieved by the center in recent years is the development of a new generation of powerful solid and gas lasers with types of pumping possessing high potential for the future and opening possibilities to create high-efficiency lasers, to improve the lasers, improve the laser beam quality, and the weight and dimensional characteristics.

In recent years, Astrophysika has completed a number of projects, including the development of Taran–small-size equipment designed to detect optical and electronic devices. Besides, a mobile apparatus has been developed for oil and gas deep well laser video recording. It is designed for operational and static control of the wells and downhole equipment.

The production and technological capacities let this facility develop modern optical equipment, including high-quality prisms made from optical glass and crystals, lenses, windows, light and spectre splitters with optical coatings, uncooled metal mirrors, mirrors with adjustable reflective surface configuration (adaptive optics).

Among innovative projects under development we should mention the creation of a brassboard of a powerful marine laser complex (Patent of the Russian Federation No. 2463200 as of October 10, 2012) that confirmed the conceptual ability of the laser to cut (destroy) 1–2 meter thick ice.

The organization performs scientific and research work to develop a ground-based mobile target and measuring complex and air-based optical measuring equipment designed for exercise and testing laser systems on objects located on a fast deployed tower and an air carrier (tethered aerostat) with laser radiation spreading near the ground.

It should be specially mentioned that Astrophysika performs active scientific and training work. There are post-graduate courses. It also has departments in three higher education institutions: Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow State University of Radio Technology, Electronics, and Automation. The organization has its school of sciences in the sphere of processing and analyzing images in turbulent atmosphere.
